Q. How many different Martial Arts are there?

Here is the answer to your question. There are literally tens of thousands. However, all of them can be separated into three distinct categories: sporty, traditional , and reality based systems. Sporty based systems are generally competition/rule oriented. They are limited to the rules, regulations, and guidelines set forth by their governing organization, and affiliates. Traditional based systems usually focus on the traditional beliefs and ceremonies and customs from ancient traditions. Some even require spiritual worship and are very cult-like in structure. Thus, prohibiting their students from seeking information outside their tightly governed/bureaucratic organization. Reality based systems are structured for preparedness, survival, and self-defense realities. Reality based systems continually change, and adapt to meet the needs of modern times. They implement only simple and effective tactics to prevent and diffuse any potential combative situations. Here is a list some common systems. Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kenpo Karate, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Karate, shotokan, Gung Fu, Kendo, Kempo, Krav Mega……………………………
